THE Polecats first grade rugby league team succumbed to an enthusiastic Sydney University team who won 30-20 at Kellyville Oval on Saturday.
Without several of their regular players who missed the game because of injury and illness, the Polecats started the game in a disjointed fashion and lacked cohesion.
The Polecats employed eight second graders who backed up and fill in to make the first grade team.
Capitalising on the poor ball control of the home team, Sydney University took only four minutes to cross for their first try.
Some strong individual work by Josh Byrne saw the home team claw back to make it 4 - 6, but Sydney University hit back almost immediately to lead 10-4.
Polecats' Jeff Everard forced his way over the line to put the margin at 10-8.
In the second half Sydney University scoring three unanswered tries in the first 15 minutes to race out to a 24-8 lead.
Scott Walbancke made a try in the 62nd minute.
In second grade, the Polecats lost 30-22 despite leading 22-6 at half time. Both teams travel to Charles Sturt University in Bathurst next week for Round Seven of the NSW Tertiary League competition.
